Chico's Local Roots?

While everyone is busy covering Emanuel's residency status the Bnews prefers to keep it a bit more local. For the first time in decades a Bridgeporter is not on the ballot for election as Mayor of Chicago. However, a glance at the Gery Chico website reveals his birthplace as McKinley Park so perhaps he was once an 11th warder?

Gery's Chicago roots run deep. He was born August 24, 1956 and raised in the McKinley Park neighborhood. His father was a local printer, and his mother worked as a secretary at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC). Gery is a product of Chicago Public Schools, having graduated from Kelly High. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science at UIC and continued on to earn his law degree from Loyola University School of Law at night, while working in the day to provide for his family. Gery has always demonstrated a passion for hard work and community service-qualities instilled in him by his grandfather and hero, Encarnacion Chico.
