JJ Peppers Police Situation

From the tribune

Officers are on the scene of a police-involved shooting at a JJ Peppers Food Store on the city's South Side in the Bridgeport neighborhood.

The shooting happened about 1:30 a.m. at the store located in the 3100 block of South Union Avenue, said Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

Police radio scanner traffic indicated a robbery took place and there may be suspects still inside the store, but police could only confirm that at least one suspect was struck by police gunfire.

As of 2 a.m., it was not clear if there were hostages inside of the store. As of 3:15 a.m., a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said they had not been notified of a death at that address. Police also could not confirm someone was shot dead, said Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
