Nawaz demands independent commission at the earliest

LAHORE,May 14 (APP)-Pakistan Muslim League-N Quaid, Mian Nawaz Sharif on Saturday reiterated his demand that an independent commission be constituted at the earliest or else PML-N would evolve it own strategy.Addressing a press conference at his Raiwind residence, after a meeting with US ambassador Cameron Munter,he said that people wanted to know the facts regarding Abottabad operation.  He stressed that an independent commission would help bring the facts to light, besides exposing those responsible.

He said the government through the parliamentary session, wanted to absolve itself of the matter of Abbottabad incident which had violated country’s sovereignty. He criticised that resolution of the government on Abbottabad incident was “weak” and nobody was held responsible.
He alleged that earlier there was no word against the drone attacks in the resolution but PML-N got it incorporated in the resolution.
He said that PML-N had not done point-scoring in the national assembly but had asked all those questions which the masses wanted to ask about the Abbottabad incident.
Nawaz Sharif demanded that the army and intelligence agencies’ budget be presented in the assembly.
He alleged that agencies should not run policies parallel to the government, adding that institutions should be subservient to civil authority. He stressed the government should define foreign policy and not the agencies.
The PML-N leader said Pakistan rendered great sacrifices to root out terrorism from the society and its economy had suffered a lot, adding that around 35,000 Pakistani citizens and security personnel have lost their lives in this regard.
He regretted that despite all such sacrifices Pakistan is being held in the dock. The US raid in Abbottabad was against the sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan, he said and added that repetition of Abbottabad incident should not be allowed.
Nawaz Sharif said ties with the US could not be unilateral, and added that the latter should be sensitive to the Pakistan concerns.  He said that it was deeply regrettable that Pakistan airbases were being used for drone attacks.
He claimed that army had not imposed martial law except “four officers” in 1999.
Regarding Kashmir issue, Nawaz Sharif said that former Indian Prime Minister was ready to resolve the issue.
“We will play role in safeguarding the N-assets”, he added.  He said that Parliament should have effective role, adding that the sanctity of ballot box should be preserved.
Opposition Leader National Assembly Ch. Nisar Ali, Mian Shahbaz Sharif and other party leaders were also present.
