Maybe It Ain't So?

A new documentary airing this week will took a look at the case against Shoeless Joe Jackson and his alleged role in fixing the 1918 World Series. Recent evidence seems to exonerate the player many consider to be the greatest hitter in Whitesox history. Jackson compiled a career .356 average during his 12 year career including a season in which he raked at a historic .408 clip. These impressive numbers rank Jackson atop the Whitesox career average leader board. Jackson is mentioned near the top of every major list of the greatest players compiled in recent years. It's commendable that historians are shedding light on this matter. Hopefully a just outcome will lead to Jackson's eventual election to the Baseball Hall Of Fame and a Farnese trip to Cooperstown.

"Triumph and Tragedy: The Rise and Fall of the 1919 White Sox," which will debut Saturday at 8 p.m. on the Major League Baseball Network.
